The Tribeca Festival has announced the lineup for its 2023 Tribeca Games portion, featuring seven titles from independent studios that exhibit potential in both storytelling and innovation in interactive experiences.
A Highland Song by inkle Studios, Chants of Sennar by Rundisc, Despelote by Julián Cordero, Sebastián Valbuena, Gabe Cuzzillo, Ian Berman, Niall Tessier-Lavigne, Goodbye Volcano High by KO_OP, Nightscape by Mezan Studios, Stray Gods by Summerfall Studios, and The Expanse: A Telltale Series from Deck Nine will all have their world premiere at the festival.
Aside from the games showcase, the festival will also feature events related to gaming culture. There will be a screening of “Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds,” a documentary that delves into the creative process of Hideo Kojima, one of the most iconic video game designers in the world. The screening will be followed by an extended Q&A session with Kojima himself. Telltale Games will also host a panel titled “Exploring Deep Space: How Telltale and Deck Nine created Expanse Stories in an Interactive Medium.” This panel will discuss the process of capturing the right feel and tone for The Expanse: A Telltale Series.
Extended Reality Experiences
The festival will also feature a highly curated program of 13 extended reality experiences. These include VR games such as Pixel Ripped 1978 and installations such as The Fury by Iranian artist Shirin Neshat.
- The Main Competition category will feature Pixel Ripped 1978 and other VR games that “bridge the gap between technology and storytelling.”
- The New Voices category is for first- or second-time XR creators that bring new perspectives and artistic languages to immersive storytelling and will feature installations such as The Fury by Shirin Neshat.
