The next generation of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor is set to debut in the coming months, with benchmarks suggesting significant performance upgrades over its predecessor. While Qualcomm has not yet released any details about the chip, it has been spotted on two benchmarking websites, and a recent report has revealed some of its rumored specifications.
Rumored CPU Configurations
A Weibo post by user Experience More suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s octa-core CPU could be made up of one prime core paired with five performance cores and two efficiency cores, or two prime cores, four performance cores, and two efficiency cores.
Performance Scores
The same Weibo post also includes a screenshot of user Hi my claiming that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 2,563 and 7,256 points in Geekbench 6 single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. The GPU test score was reported to be 8,621 points, although it is not clear whether this was the OpenCL or Vulkan test. The AnTuTu score of 1,712,271 suggests that the new chipset will be much faster than its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Potential Launch Date
While Qualcomm has yet to announce anything regarding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the launch timeline is rumored to be “just over 200 days” from now, aligning with the launch of its predecessor in November.
Cortex-X4 Prime Core
A recent MyDrivers report citing tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be equipped with an advanced Cortex-X4 prime core with a maximum clock speed of 3.7GHz, backed by five performance cores and two efficiency cores. Similar claims were made by developer and tipster Kuba Wojciechowski in March.
Expected Unveiling
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship smartphone chipset may be unveiled at Qualcomm’s annual summit, which is expected to take place later this year in Hawaii.
While these are all rumors and benchmarks that have not yet been verified independently, they suggest significant performance improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. As always, specific details are subject to change until an official announcement is made.
