Leaked design renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 have given smartphone enthusiasts a glimpse of what to expect from the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which debuted last year. While details of the device are yet to be announced by Samsung, the renders show a much larger external screen than its predecessor, similar to the upcoming foldable phone lineup by Motorola and the Oppo Find N2 Flip that debuted earlier this year.
Design Features
Tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, in collaboration with MediaPeanut, leaked the design renders for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. The images show that the device may have a 3.4-inch display, which is significantly larger than the 1.9-inch panel on last year’s model. Although this is larger than the Oppo Find N2 Flip’s 3.2-inch outer screen, it may offer users more control over their phone without opening the device’s display, such as interacting with music playback controls and viewing notifications.
The renders also show that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a dual rear camera setup and no camera island, similar to the Galaxy S23 series. The horizontally-aligned camera module is surrounded by the external display, which also partially occupies the area to the right. Previous reports had claimed that the device would feature a folder-shaped design.
Internal Display and Dimensions
The renders also reveal the inner display of the Galaxy Z Flip 5, but it is difficult to determine the size of the phone’s bezels due to the presence of a black wallpaper. The report states that the phone’s primary display will be 6.7 inches in size. Additionally, the device is rumored to measure 165×71.8×6.7mm, slightly smaller than its predecessor’s dimensions of 165.20×71.90×6.90mm, indicating that the successor may be slightly thinner in size.
Additional Features
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has also been rumored to have an external display with always-on display (AOD) functionality, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro series of smartphones. However, it is uncertain whether the device’s screen will have a refresh rate as low as 1Hz, which can help to conserve battery life.
It should be noted that Samsung is yet to announce any details regarding the launch of the clamshell-style foldable phone that will succeed the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Therefore, it is important to take the leaked renders and specifications with a grain of salt.
