Titanfall fans have been eagerly waiting for a new game in the series, but Respawn Entertainment has been busy with other projects, such as Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. However, Respawn founder Vince Zampella has said in an interview that he would “love” to see Titanfall 3 come out someday.
The Right Moment and Idea
Speaking to Barron’s (via PC Gamer), Zampella said: “We’re not working on anything currently. I hate to say yes, then people latch onto that, and then skewer you when it doesn’t come. But I would love to see it happen is the real answer.”
Zampella founded Respawn and worked on Titanfall (2014) and Titanfall 2 (2016). Fans have been clamoring for Titanfall 3, but Zampella insists that it has to be the “right thing.”
“It’s such a beloved franchise for the fans and also for us. If it is not the right moment in time, the right idea, then it just doesn’t make sense,” Zampella said in the interview.
Apex Legends and the Future of Battlefield
When it comes to the future of the Titanfall franchise, Respawn offers fans a consolation prize with Apex Legends, which exists in the same universe. Zampella is aware of fans’ desire for another dedicated Titanfall game, and he said, “It’s a hard question to answer, but ultimately I would love to see something.”
Meanwhile, Respawn continues to support Apex Legends with updates and new content. The studio is also working on multiple new Star Wars games, including an FPS that it’s developing internally, and a strategy game that it’s producing alongside developer Bit Reactor.
In addition to his duties at Respawn, Zampella is also the boss of DICE LA and is helping to shape the future direction of the Battlefield series.
A Disappointing Launch?
Titanfall 2 came out a week after Battlefield 1 and a week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Some believe that this negatively impacted the sales of Titanfall 2. EA CEO Andrew Wilson did not agree with this theory, saying that Titanfall 2 was distinct enough from those games to stand out and succeed on its own.
Cancelled Project
A new Titanfall game, Titanfall Frontline, was announced for mobile devices years ago but was canceled in 2017. Fans were left disappointed with the news, but Zampella’s recent comments hint that there’s still hope for a new game in the franchise in the future.
Conclusion
While there’s no word on whether Respawn will be developing Titanfall 3, Zampella’s recent comments suggest that it’s not off the table. Fans will need to remain patient as the studio continues to develop other projects.
For now, players can enjoy Apex Legends or explore Respawn’s expanded universe with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Let’s wait and see what Respawn has in store for the future.
