Good news for fans of Remedy Entertainment’s Quantum Break as the game is now back on digital storefronts and Game Pass. After being momentarily removed from these platforms due to licensing issues, the game is once again available for Xbox and PC players.
The Licensing Issues
The licensing issues that caused the temporary removal of Quantum Break from these platforms were due to the expiration of licenses that were in the process of being renewed. While it was initially unclear when the game would be available again, Xbox Games Marketing VP Aaron Greenberg assured fans that the game would return to Game Pass soon:
“Don’t worry Quantum Break will be coming back to Game Pass. It is being temporarily removed due to some licenses that expired that were in the process of being renewed. Will let you know as soon as it is back.”
Now, it seems that the licensing issues have been resolved, and fans can once again access the game through the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Game Pass platforms.
Martin Hatch’s Character
One of the more notable aspects of Quantam Break was the character of Martin Hatch, who was played via live-action and performance-capture by the late Lance Reddick. Reddick passed away in March, making the game an important piece of his legacy.
Comparing to Sony’s Move
It was a strange situation for Quantum Break to be removed from the Game Pass platform, especially given that it’s an Xbox and PC exclusive. Microsoft would have been losing out on the game on their own subscription service. However, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Sony is removing Insomniac’s PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man from PlayStation Plus in a few months. This move has drawn criticism from fans who feel that Sony is nickel and diming them with their subscription services. However, it’s worth noting that the game will still be available for purchase, just not through the PlayStation Plus service.
It’s a reminder that licensing issues can pop up at any time, and sometimes, it takes a little bit of time to resolve them. Thankfully, in this case, it seems that the issues with Quantum Break were relatively minor, and fans can once again enjoy the game on their preferred platform.
