In the world of smartphones, rumors and leaks are a common occurrence. Apple, one of the leading smartphone manufacturers, has been making headlines with its upcoming flagship smartphone, the iPhone 15 Pro Max. While leaks have shed light on several specifications of the device, an apparent contradiction has emerged regarding the smartphone’s camera sensor details.
New Leak Contradicts Earlier Claims
Recently, a reputed tipster named Revegnus claimed on Twitter that the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max would have the same primary camera sensor as its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, a few days earlier, another tipster named Ice Universe had claimed that the top-of-the-line iPhone would be equipped with an all-new Sony IMX903 sensor featuring 48-megapixel resolution.
While the IMX903 sensor would have enabled the iPhone 15 Pro Max to capture pictures with more light and details, the latest claim by Revegnus hints at the possibility of no new sensor, contradicting Ice Universe’s earlier leak.
The Periscope Lens and its Use in the iPhone 15 Pro Max
In addition to the camera sensor, leaks have described the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s lenses, specifically a periscope lens with support for 5x or 6x optical zoom. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had claimed last year that Apple was working on bringing periscope lens technology to its telephoto lens. In February this year, Kuo shared that a periscope lens would feature on only one iPhone model in the company’s iPhone 16 series.
A periscope lens allows users to click photos without any loss of image quality or distortion. If the iPhone 15 Pro Max does indeed feature a periscope lens, it would be a welcome addition to the iPhone’s camera setup.
The Cost of Producing the iPhone 15 Series
Revegnus has also shared details related to the cost of producing the iPhone 15 series of smartphones, saying that the production cost of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models has increased by 12 percent and 20 percent, respectively. This increase in production cost could be due to price hikes by one of Apple’s major suppliers, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
While these leaks have brought to light some aspects of the upcoming iPhone series, it is important to keep in mind that Apple has yet to make any official announcement regarding the same.
