Activision has announced the launch date of Modern Warfare 2’s Season 3 update, which will add a host of new content to the multiplayer game. The new update includes new weapons, maps, and modes, as well as the inclusion of two characters from the game’s campaign. The full roadmap for the upcoming Season 3 was also revealed, giving players a glimpse into what they can expect when the update releases on April 12.
New Weapons and Operator
The addition of Season 3 will see the FJX Imperium sniper rifle take centre stage as part of the battle pass. The iconic Intervention sniper rifle has been rebranded to the FJX Imperium and will be available for players to unlock by finishing in-game challenges or by purchasing shop bundles. The Cronen Squall battle rifle is the other weapon included in the battle pass. Additionally, two new sidearms will be introduced later in the season, and while Activision’s blog did not name them, they mentioned that they would have different and fully automatic roles. Players can unlock the Operators Alejandro Vargas and Valeria Garza from the campaign in the premium tiers of the battle pass, while new Operators will be teased to arrive in the later stages of the season.
New Modes
Cranked is back for Season 3 of Modern Warfare 2, an explosive mode that keeps players on edge, forcing players to remain “cranked” to reset a timer and prevent them from exploding. Gunfight mode is also making a comeback in Season 3, and two different versions of the mode will be available to play. The classic version involves fast-paced 2v2 matchups played on small maps, while the Gunfight: OSP variant, set to arrive later in the season, features similar gameplay but requires players to loot their weapons and equipment off the ground instead of receiving a standard loadout each round. Later in the season, Ground War Infected, Call of Duty’s Infected multiplayer mode, will arrive on the larger Ground War maps.
Multiplayer Maps
Season 3 will introduce several new maps, including three core maps, one 6v6 map that’s suitable for night vision, and two large-scale Ground War maps. Additionally, the season will add four small maps tailored for Gunfight. The launch of Season 3 will include the stormy, nighttime map Pelayo’s Lighthouse and a new map named Black Gold, which brings back the night-vision feature from Modern Warfare 2019. Alboran Hatchery will arrive later in the season as a 6v6 standard map. Rohan Oil and Sattiq Cave Complex form the two new large-scale Ground War maps.
New Co-op Content
Season 3 also includes a brand-new season of episode Raids, with three-player episodic Raids continuing Modern Warfare 2’s story. Episode 3 will be released later in the season, while Episodes 1 and 2 are still available for players looking to catch up on the story and unlock some operator skin rewards. Additionally, a new Special Ops mission will be released in the mid-season update that will see players take on the Las Almas Cartel in a location set in Al Mazrah.
The announcement of Season 3 also notes that players will experience new prestige levels, new seasonal challenges, weapon balancing and bug fixes, and new cosmetic rewards as part of Ranked Play’s new season.
If you own a copy of Modern Warfare 2, the Season 3 update is something that you won’t want to miss. Scheduled to launch on April 12, Season 3 includes new maps, modes, and weapons that are sure to shake things up for the multiplayer game.
