Google I/O 2023, the search giant’s annual developer conference, is about to start, and this year it will be streamed live. Along with updates to its mobile apps and application development tools, Google is likely to launch new hardware at the event. What to Expect from Google I/O 2023
Last year Google unveiled the Pixel 6a smartphone and Android and Wear OS updates, Google Translate enhancements, and other applications. This year, we can expect the company to launch Android 14 and Wear OS updates as well as a successor to the Pixel 6a—the Pixel 7a. The most significant announcements are detailed below.
Android 14 and Wear OS Updates
Android 14 Beta 1 was released last month, and manufacturers and Google are currently working on bringing the new software to compatible devices. Details of Android 14’s new features and enhancements are not yet known, but privacy features and passkey support have already been announced. The next version of Wear OS will also be announced during the keynote.
Pixel 7a
At the Google I/O event, Google is expected to launch the mid-range Pixel 7a smartphone, which will feature several upgrades over last year’s model. The phone is expected to include Google’s second-generation Tensor G2 chip, an improved display with a higher refresh rate, better cameras, and support for wireless charging. The phone will be launched in India on Thursday and will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.
Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet
Google will launch its first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, which will compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, the company has yet to release the phone’s specifications or announce which regions it will be available in. Google had previously announced the launch of its first Pixel-branded tablet in 2023, and this device could be revealed during the Google I/O keynote.
Google Software
Google is putting in work on its AI-backed chatbot, Bard. To compete with the upgraded Bing search service from Microsoft-backed Open AI, Google may integrate AI features into its search service. Additionally, Google could announce new features and integrations for its mobile apps, similar to last year’s updates to Google Translate and the Google Wallet app.
