The long-awaited remakes of Advance Wars 1 and 2 for Nintendo Switch are finally just around the corner!
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Release Date
The highly anticipated remake of the first two games in the beloved turn-based tactics series will launch on April 21 for Nintendo Switch. This was confirmed during a Nintendo Direct earlier this year, much to the delight of fans who had been eagerly awaiting this release.
Delayed Release
The compilation had been delayed indefinitely due to world events (the war in Ukraine). The delay wound up lasting more than a year, but fortunately, the release is back on track and just a few weeks away.
New Features
The remade collection of the first two games comes packed with new and updated features like voice acting, a fast forward and rewind function, and a map editor that lets you make your own levels. The remake allows players to enjoy both local and online multiplayer experiences.
Preorders and Pricing
Preorders for physical copies of Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp are available for $60 at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart. You can also preorder the digital version for $60 on the Nintendo Switch eShop and Amazon. While not a preorder bonus, buying on the eShop earns you a few Nintendo Gold points that you can put towards future purchases.
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp is also part of Nintendo’s Game Voucher program, which lets you buy a pair of select games for $100 total.
The Game Itself
Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars games originally made for the Game Boy Advance: Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. The cult-classic turn-based strategy sees players commanding infantry and special “CO” hero units against enemy armies. Battles play out on land, air, and sea, and the game’s tone is surprisingly cheerful and fun, with a colorful art style and catchy tunes that belie the otherwise grim subject matter.
Development studio Wayforward is handling the remake, which features all the story content, gameplay mechanics, and versus modes of the 2D sprite-based original games remade with full 3D characters and environments.
It’s a great time to be a strategy-game fan, what with a classic series like Advance Wars getting a high-quality remaster for a modern console.
