A concept render of the rumoured Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has surfaced online, showcasing its possible design ahead of its expected launch in August this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to come with upgraded features compared to its predecessor, including a larger outer display and a customised version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Here’s what we know so far:
Design and Display
The concept render, created by Sammobile, suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a much larger external display than its predecessor, which had a 1.9-inch screen. The new clamshell foldable smartphone is expected to feature a 3.4-inch outer display, making it larger than other clamshell foldable phones currently available in the market. The display is speculated to cover a wide surface area, allowing users to capture selfies and display notifications such as time, battery percentage, and more.
Processor and Performance
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to be powered by a customised version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, according to recent leaks. A Geekbench listing allegedly confirms the presence of this processor on the handset, which should result in improved performance over its predecessor.
Camera and Other Features
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to come with upgrades to the camera system and other features as well. While details on the camera setup are still uncertain, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 boasted a dual rear camera unit comprising a 12-megapixel ultra-wide primary sensor and a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. It also had a 10-megapixel selfie camera and up to 512GB of inbuilt storage. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 was IPX8 rated, which means it was resistant to water and dust.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 was launched at the Galaxy Unpacked event in August last year, with a starting price tag of Rs. 89,999 for the base 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to come with upgrades over the outgoing model and will likely have a higher price point. As of now, there’s no official word on the price and availability of the Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Competition from Oppo Find N2 Flip
The newly launched Oppo Find N2 Flip is the first foldable phone from Oppo to debut in India. While it has some impressive features, including a Snapdragon 888 SoC and a 7.1-inch foldable AMOLED display, it remains to be seen how it will compare to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5.
